Dentistry uses two main shade reference systems. The VITA classical guide runs from A1 (very light warm) through A4 (dark warm) with similar ranges in cooler B, C and D families. The VITA Bleach range sits above A1 and covers BL1, BL2, BL3 and BL4, which are the whites most associated with Hollywood smiles. Bleach shades are brighter but reflect differently under artificial light and can look grey in low lux conditions.
